Gotnews.com has obtained photos from a local Ferguson photographer, Steve Pellegrino, to document what’s been happening.
Gotnews.com will eventually include a lot more material from photographers and journalists out there.
This how Pellegrino describes what he’s seen.
As I mentioned in my direct messages to you on Twitter, I would be interested in shooting photos for your site related to what is going on in Ferguson. I live in the area. We owned a house in Ferguson for 16 years and while we live in Florissant, which is directly north of Ferguson, we’re basically still in Ferguson. Our next door neighbors are Ferguson. All the houses across the street are Ferguson. So I know the area and the history of it very well.
Currently we live less than 10 minutes from West Florissant and just a few minutes from S. Florissant, where the police department is located. So I’m close to the action either way.
I’m a freelance photographer and have been shooting this since the day after Michael Brown was shot. Over the past 6 weeks I’ve interacted with many of the people you’ve seen in the news, however I’m not shooting for anyone. I share a few photos on social media, but have pulled back a bit because people have been taking my photos and not giving me credit for them – especially the Anonymous people.
Moving forward I’d like to have a little more purpose with the work I’m putting in on this and I like what you’re doing so I thought I’d extend my offer to you. You probably have no need for the past work I’ve shot, but future photos will be relevant. If Wilson is not indicted, this place is going to explode. But even if he is, anything less than murder one is going to cause an uproar.
There are a lot of outside players fanning the flames here trying to keep the tension going. New Black Panthers and others want this to be a fight. Add to that a lot of other issues are coming out of Ferguson, like the so-called militarization of police and the perception a lot of people have about Ferguson in general. It’s not the ghetto being portrayed in the media.
I’ve attached a bunch of low-res photos for you so you can see some of the things I’ve done with the Ferguson protests. Let me know if you have any questions or have any ideas.
