In declining orders old settled questions get reopened. People begin to think unthinkable thoughts and discuss previously forbidden topics. First anonymously, then openly, and then things really begin to change. So it is with the alt right, a loose organization of Internet activists that has captured the attention of Hillary Clinton and her sycophantic media. We’ve moved from the back of the comments section and the chans and Reddit to the fore of the national conversation.
I am a member, and perhaps a leader, of the alt right. I run GotNews.com, a controversial breaking news website and one of the top alt right friendly sites. It wasn’t always so. Once a darling of Conservatism Inc. – I won awards from Murdoch’s Empire – I broke with it over its failures, chiefly its love of military adventurism and ethnic cleansing by open borders. I simply stopped believing the neocon nonsense.
The alt right shares my skepticism. We’re skeptical of many of the claims of the various isms that have become de facto state ideology: anti-racism, feminism, and anti-ethnic nepotism. Every regime has an animating lie at its heart and ours is that equality is possible or even all that desirable.
We have been told endlessly by our liberal professors that race matters and matter it does—a lot. We talk about race a lot on the alt right and we talk about it smartly. And why shouldn’t we? Contrary to what you may have been told in school race is a biological reality, or as writer Steve Sailer calls it, “human biodiversity.”
We read banned books and blogs. Think the next generation of Charles Murray’s The Bell Curve but with a more scientific, historical twist. These include The 10,000 Year Explosion: How Civilization Accelerated Human Evolution by Gregory Cochran and Henry Harpending, which shows that race is real and that evolution didn’t stop 10,000 years ago but continues to our day; Albion’s Seed by David Hackett Fischer, which discusses the genetic underpinnings of American culture; and The Culture of Critique by Kevin MacDonald, a psychology professor who argues controversially that Jews use their higher average IQ and ethnocentrism at others’ expense.
Unlike the neocons we take Occam’s Razor seriously on race on the alt right. Maybe blacks and Arabs are more violent? Could Jews and Asians actually be smarter? Maybe school choice and free markets won’t save Detroit from itself. America isn’t an idea but a people who settled and built a country over time and through sacrifice.
For young white men throughout the West life is worse now than it has ever been. Our grandfathers built this country while our fathers imported the minorities who took our jobs and suppressed our wages. We’ve watched as the worthless college degrees we were forced to buy with debt put us in penury for decades. Those of us who work to get STEM degrees saw our jobs outsourced, or, in some cases, replaced by immigrants we had to train before getting pink slipped. When we tried to raise money for ventures we saw, instead, the deals go to pretty fraudulent blondes like Elizabeth Holmes of Theranos infamy. We watched as home values moved out of our reach as our parents’ generation prioritized rich foreigners with cash over their own flesh and blood. Whole neighborhoods in Vancouver, San Francisco, and New York belong now to the world rather than to us. We’re told by our parents generation to get off our iPhone and get a job but there are no jobs for us.
We have been discriminated against both in the academy and corporate America despite often stellar grades and test scores. When we complain about anti-white discrimination the likes of which that would land any other group in a congressional hearing we’re told we are “privileged.” Why should we who never owned slaves and who have lived under the first black president be forced to pay for our great grandfathers’ alleged sins? Many of us voted for Obama! At university we are told men and women are equal – nay, that women are superior! – and yet we are the ones expelled without trial when the previously consenting coed cries rape.
We all know people who have been fired simply for speaking their mind privately, not, of course, for being bad at their jobs. Sometimes we organize collection drives to give them money or hire them, often at much discounting rates as there is no longer a market for their talents. We talk about our shitlord identities or online alter egos the way gay men pre-Stone Wall must have once used assumed names. We worry about being doxxed, that, is to say, outed. To be outed as alt right in 2016 — the current year — is to be ruined.
Still we “red pill” each other by asking questions that would see us unemployable were we to ask them at work or in school. Why can’t the United States be a majority white country again? It was good enough for our parents and their parents. Why can Israel or Hungary have a wall or fence but we can’t?
The anonymity of the Internet has afforded a “safe space” as we build community and power. And now even that is being taken from us as newspaper after newspaper eliminates comment sections. Reddit, Twitter, Facebook are all cracking down on trolls. Who are the trolls? It’s never quite defined — power is all about double standards — but we all know that the trolls are those of us who think for ourselves. The same culture that okays banning Twitter or Facebook accounts will eventually ban people it doesn’t like.
So we are organizing online, on /pol/, in private research groups, volunteering what time and money we have to breaking media narratives, debunking hoaxes, and making memes. We are playing practical jokes for the lulz. And we are taking over the right and the country.
I invite you to join us. Email me at firstname.lastname@example.org.
