Sotloff was decapitated by the same group of people he considered friends

Gotnews.com has obtained copies of the late Steve Sotloff’s tweets expressing support for terrorist friends in Syria. Sotloff was reported to have been beheaded by the terrorist group, ISIS, today.

Sotloff embedded with Syrian terrorists in the northern part of Syria. In July, the so-called “Free Syrian Army” joined ISIS, according to press reports at the time.

@martinchulov the fighters I was sleeping with ran out out if furniture and are now prying the wood panels from the walls to stay warm.

— Steven Sotloff (@stevensotloff) December 21, 2012

Sotloff was unable to be an objective journalist about the conflict.

— Steven Sotloff (@stevensotloff) September 4, 2012

This lack of objectivity has now been praised by the Atlantic Magazine but it should be called out for what it is: Syrian rebel stenography, instead of showing a “human toll.”

Despite dangers, U.S. journalist Steven Sotloff was determined to record Arab Spring's human toll http://t.co/omqkbtZGoU

To cover these fighters you usually have to take their side. Sotloff did.

My friend Munthir Hussain was killed 2 days ago in #Al-Sakhoor #Aleppo . Don't 4get people in Syria–on both side–have names.

— Steven Sotloff (@stevensotloff) October 7, 2012

He also praised Abdullah Al Yasin, a Syrian militant, and saluted his fighting in Aleppo. What was a journalist doing making friends with a militant?

My friend Abdullah AlYasin was executed 2day in Aleppo. He was a wonderful man who put others b4 himself. Gr8 loss. Yerhamu Allah!

Al Yasin was praised by a Syrian terrorist leader, Yosef Abobaker. Abobaker is identified in this Spanish language interview as a leader in the Free Syrian Army.

Al Yasin’s brother, by contrast, identified the Free Syrian Army as his real killers (above) in a social media posting.

The FSA was also supported by Elizabeth O’Bagy, a discredited neoconservative foreign policy analyst who was paid by the Islamists and who lied about her Ph.D. O’Bagy was first exposed by Gotnews.com editor-in-chief Charles C. Johnson.

John McCain famously visited with them in his trip to Northern Syria facilitated by O’Bagy and even wanted a sleepover with them. Incredibly O’Bagy now works for McCain as a foreign policy staffer.

Sotloff did occasionally veer from conventional analysis.

He doubted, for example, that al Qaeda was behind the Benghazi attack.

Don't believe hype about AQ being behind Libya attack. Need to find the big bad wolf to scapegoat. Small fringe groups with similar ideas.

— Steven Sotloff (@stevensotloff) September 13, 2012

And he also warned about the dangers posed by Qatar in a 2010 article for the Jerusalem Post.

And yet Sotloff didn’t seem to realize that much of the Syrian rebels were funded by Qatar.

On a more political note, Sotloff was also a typical left-wing journalist, prone to praise his side. Sotloff live tweeted the foreign policy debate between Romney and Obama on October 22, 2012 and came out strongly for Obama.

He criticized Romney for saying America should pressure Iran like the U.S. did to South Africa.

#Romney lost me somewhere before #apartheid

— Steven Sotloff (@stevensotloff) October 23, 2012

He joined in the chorus of liberal journalists mocking Romney for saying that Russia was a threat to the United States.

#Obama momma joke of the night: "The 1980s called and they want their foreign policy back."

— Steven Sotloff (@stevensotloff) October 23, 2012

In confronting the problems of Islamic supremacy, Sotloff made an all too common mistake among our foreign policy and journalistic elite: he was unable to draw distinctions between friends and enemies.

When the Syrian jihadis needed him to tell their story, Sotloff was useful to them but as they consolidated their rule he was useful to them only as a hostage video.

And there will be more so long as the West fails to be clearheaded about Islam.
