Following a GotNews report that New Jersey Democratic Sen. Cory Booker received donations from fellow Democrat Bob Menendez, records suggest the two may have traded some PAC cash.
FEC donation records accessed from OpenSecrets.org show in 2012, Cory Booker’s PAC gave $5,000 to the re-election effort for Menendez. Booker’s PAC gave $8,500 dollars to different Democratic Senate candidates, but Menendez received over half of it.
In 2014, when Booker was up for re-election, the Menendez-affiliated PAC New Millennium gave $10,000 to Booker’s re-election bid.
Swapping PAC donations may be a common practice in the Democratic Party. In 2016, California Democratic Rep. Ami Bera’s father was sentenced to prison for his role in coordinating a donation-trading scheme that skirted campaign finance laws and involved Democratic Congressmen across the country.
Booker sat in the front of the courtroom the day Menendez’s federal trial began to support his Democrat colleague. How close are Booker and Menendez?
