Multinational mining company Rio Tinto, which has close ties to George Soros, has been caught up in what looks like a $10.5 million corruption and bribery scandal related to the Simandou mine in the small West African country of Guinea.
A press release by the company last week said that it had contacted regulatory authorities and immediately suspended a senior executive after investigating e-mails relating to a $10.5 million payment to a consultant in 2011.
Rio Tinto’s legal & regulatory affairs group executive Debra Valentine also stepped down. No wrongdoing has been explicitly named yet, but the pattern of events seems to speak for itself.
While spokesmen for George Soros deny any relationship or partnership with Rio Tinto, George Soros hosted a London meeting between Rio Tinto, the government of Guinea, and other investors in the Simandou mine in 2013, specifically to discuss the mine:
One must be pretty close to Rio Tinto to hold such a meeting, no?

Soros chaperoned Guinean President Alpha Conde to the same G8 meetings and backed him “to the hilt” with “cash donations… infrastructure, lawyers, and advisers” according to Page Six.
President Conde was implicated as a receiver of bribes from an African political fixer who was arrested in New York City this August.
George Soros and Rio Tinto were named as targets of a lawsuit by Rio Tinto rival BSGR on 1 June 2014 by The Sunday Times, who alleged that George Soros conspired with Rio Tinto, President Conde, and other groups to deprive BSGR of rights to the Simandou mine.
While no definitive wrongdoing has been proven yet, some questions become apparent: could President Conde have received bribes from Rio Tinto? And if he did, what was George Soros’ relationship to them?
