Kentucky Republican Sen. Rand Paul fled the scene of the Alexandria shooting after gunman James T. Hodgkinson shot House Majority Whip Steve Scalise, according to two members of Congress present during the attack.
The second they heard “shooter down,” Alabama Rep. Mo Brooks, Ohio Rep. Brad Wenstrup, and Arizona Sen. Jeff Flake ran out of the dugout to help the wounded. Brooks used a belt as a tourniquet to stop bleeding on staffer while Wenstrup helped apply pressure to Scalise’s wound.
Paul heard the shots and ran away—even though he is an M.D. and could have helped. Before being elected into the Senate, Paul practiced as an ophthalmologist for 18 years. In 2013, National Review reported Paul “misses practicing medicine.” What better opportunity than when your Congressional colleague is bleeding on the baseball field?
All of six the Republican congressmen on Hodgkinson’s kill list were House Freedom Caucus members: Brooks, Scott DesJarlais, Jeff Duncan, Trent Franks, Morgan Griffith, and Jim Jordan.
Sources inform GotNews that Hodgkinson had a life-threatening condition and wanted to kill Republicans for making healthcare more difficult to obtain.
The “Terminate the Republican Party” Facebook group, to which Hodgkinson belonged, celebrated the shooting. Over 12,000 tweets have called for Trump’s assassination—yet Twitter suspended GotNews editor-in-chief Charles C. Johnson for using an innocuous metaphor.
