Majority Whip Steve Scalise trashed white supremacist David Duke in a 2004 statement to the media ahead of a run for Congress.
“David Duke is an embarrassment to our district and his message of hate only serves to divide us,” Scalise said in 2004.
The message was well received by his congressional district.
Here’s Terry O’Connor writing for the New Orleans City Business on February 2, 2004 piece titled, “Commentary: Scalise rips Duke idea in a blast for all of us.”
State Rep. Steve Scalise, R-Jefferson, spoke for the vast majority of the voting public when he tongue-lashed David Duke for saying he would run for the 1st Congressional District seat being vacated by Rep. David Vitter, R-Metairie.
“David Duke is an embarrassment to our district and his message of hate only serves to divide us,” Scalise said.
“When elected,” Scalise said he’ll push for federal ethics reform to forbid a felon from running for office. Duke is serving a prison term for mail and tax fraud.
Scalise is under fire for attending a 2002 event where Duke also spoke. Scalise was giving a tax policy speech.
Representative Scalise represents a very Republican district — R+23– that is over 80% white and yet he still manages to meet with black constituents and visitors.
Here are some photos taken from his Facebook page.
Scalise, who is now number 3 in leadership, has come under fire ahead of the new Congress. He is widely thought to be too conservative for the House leadership but not conservative enough for some of the Tea Party factions.
If Scalise resigns moderate Republican Pete Roskam will be his likely replacement.
Of course the double standard of which supremacists we are allowed to tolerate is glaring.
President Obama attended a number of controversial events in his past.
We don’t support Scalise at Gotnews.com but we do object to tarring people with the racist brush. He’s not a good guy.
Government of the corporations, by the corporations, for the corporations.

But it’s so McCarthyite to come after him on race stuff.
Oh, and yours truly predicted he would win the House leadership battle back in June.
