Apple CEO Tim Cook wants to claim credit for jobs created thanks to President Donald Trump that have nothing to do with Apple.
Chinese manufacturer Foxconn announced Wednesday it plans to build a manufacturing plant in Wisconsin. While Foxconn is one of Apple’s primary iPhone assemblers, the plant will be used to manufacture large-screen displays for TV screens. It is not expected to make any iPhone parts or products at the Wisconsin plant.
The announcement comes on the heels of Trump revealing in a Wall Street Journal interview that Cook promised Apple would build three new manufacturing plants in the U.S., a clear lie—Apple has no plants in the U.S.
Apple’s real motive is trying to take credit for jobs to advance Cook’s liberal agenda. Apple has upped its lobbying to record amounts since Trump has become president to push for so-called immigration “reform,” climate change, and other pet policy initiatives.
This isn’t the first time Cook has played games with the media at Trump’s expense.
In June, during a trip to the White House with other tech CEOs trying to curry favor with Trump, Cook fabricated a story about Trump’s support for comprehensive immigration “reform.” He then leaked it to the New York Times’ Maggie Haberman, leading to a total denial from the White House.
