Tony Podesta and the Podesta Group failed to report over $100,000 in contributions to Hillary Clinton’s campaign to the Department of Justice, according to a GotNews review of campaign finance records.
During the 2016 election, Tony Podesta – the lobbyist brother of Clinton Campaign Chair John Podesta – worked as a fundraising bundler for Hillary for America. FEC reports shows that Podesta raised $130,900 from July 1 through December 31, 2015 for Hillary for America:
In addition, Podesta gave the maximum individual contribution, $33,400, to the Hillary Victory Fund on December 14, 2015:
Tony Podesta recently resigned as Chairman of the Podesta Group along with its CEO, Kimberley Fritts, amid scrutiny from the Mueller investigation and rumors of impending indictments over other failures to disclose lobbying ties.
Various reports have confirmed that the Podesta Group is one of two companies mentioned in the indictment of Paul Manafort and Rick Gates, and that the firm will be changing its name in an effort to rebrand.
This latest omission could spell more trouble for the beleaguered firm. Federal laws require the Podesta Group and Tony Podesta to report campaign contributions to the Justice Department. Failure to do so can result in civil and criminal penalties.
