In a powerful press conference on Friday, M. Reese Everson, a former legislative aide, accused Congressman Bobby Scott (D-VA) of sexual harassment.
Everson alleged that, in 2013, Scott touched her body without her permission, and also offered to use his power as a Congressman to advance her career – on the condition she accept his sexual advances.
Everson is represented by Jack Burkman, a Republican lawyer and lobbyist. Everson, a successful attorney herself, chose Burkman “because he’s known for speaking the truth even when it’s inconvenient,” and noted that “he’s not going to be shut down by Democratic codes of silence.”
Everson and Burkman called on Congressman Scott to resign, and also demanded Speaker Paul Ryan and Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi unseal the secret deals members of Congress have made using taxpayer dollars to silence their sexual harassment victims.
