Evangelical groups are deliberately omitting Cruz’s influential role in the release of Meriam Ibrahim and playing up the role of establishment GOP and Democrat politicians in that release, a source close to Cruz told Gotnews.com.
Our source told us that a Cruz supporter went up to the organizers of the Values Voter Summit to ask for a correction but no correction was given despite Cruz’s steadfast commitment to releasing Ibrahim. “He’s being deliberately omitted,” the source said.
The message reads:
“With deep appreciation, we give special recognition to the following individuals and organizations for their efforts to bring world attention to Meriam Ibrahim’s plight and for their tireless efforts to secure her freedom and work for the religious freedom of so many like her.”
Why was Cruz omitted?
Senator Ted Cruz gave dozens of speeches to call for the release of Meriam Ibrahim, a Christian woman married to an American man who was sentenced to die in her native Sudan. Cruz gave an impassioned speech calling for Ibrahim’s release in front of the White House.
But Cruz’s name is nowhere to be found on a flyer thanking establishment politicians for that release. Instead, a group of Christian organizers thank establishment politicians and even some Democratic politicians for their help.
This is sharp contrast to earlier in the year when Cruz was one of the only major politician to speak at a rally calling for Ibrahim’s release.

Despite winning the Values Voter Summit straw poll, some professional evangelical and Christian writers and activists seem to be attacking Cruz ahead of Cruz’s potential run for the presidency.
Cruz may well be supported by a majority of evangelical voters but the leaders of the organizations are working to back Huckabee and Santorum.
President & CEO of Americans United for Life Charmaine Yoest gave a recent benediction praying for Mike Huckabee to run for president.
Cruz, for his part, applauded Ibrahim’s release in a speech this past weekend.
