Democratic House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi has a history of praising accused sexual predator Congressman John Conyers as an ally of women and a champion of women’s issues, according to a 2013 video reviewed by GotNews.
Like Congresswoman Maxine Waters (D-CA), who just last month told Women’s March organizers that Conyers has been “supportive of women for many, many years” and has “impeccable integrity on our issues,” Pelosi has offered Conyers high praise as a supposedly positive force for women.
“I was so proud of the work of our Chairman, and a leader on this legislation then and now, Chairman John Conyers – former Chair of the Judiciary Committee, now ranking member,” Pelosi told her House colleagues in a February 28th, 2013 speech on the Violence Against Women Act that can be viewed here. “We’ll be hearing more from him shortly, but he has been there steady and strong as a champion in the fight to end violence against women.”
Conyers is facing growing calls to resign ever since journalist and filmmaker Mike Cernovich obtained documents proving Conyers had secretly settled a sexual harassment case with a former staffer for $27,000.
As GotNews exclusively reported yesterday, a source close to Conyers says there are “multiple other women who have been sexually harassed by Conyers in recent years,” who did not sign NDAs, at least one of whom “is currently considering talking to news organizations about her encounter with Conyers.” Since then, both Buzzfeed and the Washington Post have broken stories about new accusers coming forward against Conyers.
Pelosi has called for an ethics investigation into Conyers, and fellow Democrat Kathleen Rice of New York has called for his resignation. Conyers, on the other hand, says he has no intention of resigning.
