In the latest weird twist of events, the Anti-Trump Metropolitan Republican Club has welcomed a long time Democratic operative to their club to speak. This is the same Republican club that purged Trump supporters from its trustee board a week after the 45th President’s Inauguration and made it nearly impossible for Trump campaign surrogates, including Trump’s children to appear at the club to speak during the 2016 Republican primary.
Meanwhile, the club, run by a long time supporter of Democratic Party Minority Leader Charles Schumer, made it a safe space for “Never Tump” speakers and Democratic-friendly or outright Anti-Trump candidates in 2016.
Now Met Club leadership are rolling out the red carpet to have long time Clinton operative Doug Schoen speak this Thursday, March 23, 2017 at the Anti-Trump Metropolitan Republican Club. Guests are invited to stay after for a book signing and meet and greet with Schoen as well as a catered reception with an open bar at the Upper East Side Club.
A long time Clinton supporter, Douglas Schoen was named “Pollster of the Year” by the American Association of Political Consultants for work on Bill Clinton’s 1996 re-election campaign, which took place during the Lewinsky Affair.
Any Trump supporter who was disgusted by the “inevitability” of a Clinton win constantly being talked about in the media for the last four years need look no further than the slippery behavior of Schoen who even Salon referred to in the most disgusting of ways:
“Schoen…has been holding himself out as an independent polling analyst for Rasmussen Reports and other media venues, concealing his long-standing ties to the Clintons and writing one ostensibly objective analysis after the next which has no purpose other than to depict Clinton’s candidacy as an inevitability.”
The leadership of the Metropolitan Republican Club has come under fire lately for its interest in playing for both the Republican and Democratic teams, while hamstringing club membership that were active proponents of Donald Trump throughout 2015 and 2016.
Robert L. Morgan III, who was active in removing Trump supporters from the board of the Met Club in the Trump Purge explained on the February 14, 2017 Gavin McInness Show “There was obviously a point in time where there were certain Manhattan Republicans that weren’t attracted to Trump.”
Rick Nelson, a Donald Trump supporter from Northern Virginia reports wanting to volunteer for Trump in Manhattan in fall 2016 while on vacation and being told at the Metropolitan Republican Club “We’re not doing that.” Nelson reports going to “the Republican club on 83rd Street” and being told by “an older red headed lady” in response to his interest in campaigning for Trump “we’re not doing that. You can go out and volunteer for this candidate instead.” At which point he was shown a stack of Rebecca Harary campaign literature. Harary is a local candidate who GotNews previously reported ran counter to the Republican Party’s Presidential nominee, in his home city, begging voters to split the ballot and vote for her and Hillary Clinton. Harary’s opponent, who also campaigned in support of the Democratic presidential nominee, received 62% of the vote. Got News was unable to confirm who exactly the older red headed lady was who responded “we’re not doing that” to Nelson showing up at the Metropolitan Republican Club to campaign for Trump in Manhattan.
President Deb Coughlin, Got News discovered, through an FEC records search, is a long time supporter of Friends of Schumer. Coughlin appears to have violated federal law in her strong support of the divisive Anti-Trump Democrat Senator, giving as much as $6,000 in a single day. Former club President Peter C. Hein, also responsible for purging Trump supporters, GotNews discovered helped organize an evening for Chuck Schumer as the guest of honor and medal recipient. Hein also donated $22,000 in support of the banquet honoring Trump’s most prominent Democratic opponent Chuck Schumer. Adele Malpass, Manhattan Republican Committee chairwoman defended the Trump Purge and lied in the media while doing so, claiming that “The Met Club replaced its board members according to its bylaws.” Based on the copy of the Metropolitan Republican Club bylaws obtained by Got News, at least four bylaws were violated the night of the annual meeting. Malpass similarly, very publicly supported Rebecca Harary in her attempts to split the ballot and undercut Republican nominee Donald Trump.
While some observers find it odd that the Met Club would invite Schoen while alienating prominent Republicans, others find it surprising that Schoen would accept the invitation. Schoen, who is active with the better government group Represent.us, will find himself at the club standing before a group of members who have called for an audit of club finances for years, but have received nothing but a runaround. Represent.us advocates for a level of accountability and transparency in government, but the venue at which their advisory member plans to speak has virtually no history of being accountable to their membership, with several accounts of money going missing at the Metropolitan Republican Club under club President Deborah Coughlin’s watch and never being openly discussed with the members of the membership-based non-profit.
“These people are meant for each other. They just shouldn’t be speaking at the Met Club or running the Met Club,” commented a club member.
Schoen made headlines just before the 2016 election when he was involved in a strange turn of events that is still confusing to some observers.
On October 28, 2016, FBI Director, James Comey announced the FBI is reviewing new evidence in an investigation regarding Hillary Clinton. That same night, in a segment starting at 10:48pm on Hannity, Schoen enthusiastically renewed his decades long support for a Hillary Clinton White House, dismissing the news saying “Look, Hillary’s going to be elected” and “I want her elected,” explaining to the host that Hannity’s hopes for a Trump win were futile “But it didn’t affect the polls Sean…it’s not going to come out in eleven days…[Comey] owes it to us to explain.” Par for the course, and confusing to any onlooker, Schoen, within two days was saying something slightly different.
In a move that many saw as unusual at the time, the long-time Clinton operative merely a week before the 2016 election, on October 30, announced that he would no longer be supporting Hillary Clinton for the Presidency. In an article the next day, for the Hill, Schoen wrote:
“During my weekly show on the “Fox Report” hosted by Harris Faulkner with Pat Caddell and John LeBoutillier, I indicated that it will be very difficult, if not impossible, for me to vote for Hillary Clinton on November 8.”
As mealy-mouthed as this statement sounds, from Schoen, in the week before the election, this could understandably have been seen as him throwing his support behind Trump, if taken out of context. That the statement came from someone as slippery as Schoen who has long claimed to be independent while carrying water for Clinton, makes one wonder what the slippery Schoen was trying to say. He clarified. Schoen is definitely not a Trump supporter. Not because of politics or personality, but something much more significant – “world view,” as Schoen stated in the Hill:
“I also want to make clear that I cannot vote for Donald Trump as his world view and mine are very different.”
This strange move came just weeks after conservative commentator and author of “MAGA Mindset,” Mike Cernovich outed some of Schoen’s suspicious financial relationships.
September 11, 2016, on his website Danger and Play, Cernovich wrote about Schoen “In a remarkable conflict-of-interest, Fox News analyst and former Clinton operative Douglas E. Schoen has failed to disclose to readers that he’s been paid millions of dollars from Ukrainian agents to incite a war between the United States and Russia. Before inciting war with Russia, Schoen worked for Bill Clinton and brokered meetings (for $40,000 a month) between then-Secretary of State Hillary Clinton and billionaire oligarchs.”
In what Cernovich calls “a complete lack of ethics and transparency” Schoen at no time revealed his payments while he appeared in public inciting war between the US and Russia.
“Schoen was paid $40,000 a month by a foreign government while he himself had close Clinton ties.”
Schoen’s boss, according to federal filings, Victor Pinchuk, Newsweek reports, is one of the single largest individual donors to the Clinton Foundation and has spent a decade courting the Clinton’s with Schoen’s help.
“This story on its own makes Hillary Clinton unfit for the presidency, and makes Schoen unfit to appear at a Republican Club. Weird how many Republicans are still fighting the outcome of the 2016 election,” said a Metropolitan Club member.
In leaked emails, Victor Pinchuk, for whom Schoen had and may still work, and Hillary Clinton appear to have a close connection, with regular discussions of business taking place between them and between surrogates such as Melanne Verbeer of the State Department.
With Pinchuck having directed between $10 and $25 million to the Clinton Foundation this makes perfect sense.
What doesn’t make sense is why the Metropolitan Republican Club would welcome a Democratic pollster, known Clinton operative, and Ukrainian government funded agitator of Russian-American tension.
“Is that what they call support for Donald Trump and his world view?” asked club member Allan Stevo of the club leadership.
“A steel magnate and major contributor to the former president’s foundation, [Victor] Pinchuk was in frequent contact with Mrs. Clinton’s State Department, at meetings arranged by a Clinton political operative turned lobbyist, Douglas E. Schoen.”
“Victor Pinchuk, a steel magnate whose father-in-law, Leonid Kuchma, was president of Ukraine from 1994 to 2005, has directed between $10 million and $25 million to the foundation. He has lent his private plane to the Clintons and traveled to Los Angeles in 2011 to attend Mr. Clinton’s star-studded 65th birthday celebration.”
In the Soviet Union, Kuchma was formerly a mid-level Communist Party boss, before the Ukrainian revolution, whose career was given a boost by his marriage to the daughter of a high ranking communist party official.
In its description of Schoen’s involvement in the pay to play scandal surrounding the Clintons, the Times continued “Between September 2011 and November 2012, Douglas E. Schoen, a former political consultant for Mr. Clinton, arranged about a dozen meetings with State Department officials on behalf of or with Mr. Pinchuk to discuss the continuing political crisis in Ukraine, according to reports Mr. Schoen filed as a registered lobbyist.”
Just down the street from the club, a long time club member said of Schoen “Of course they would bring a wolf in sheep’s clothing into the Met Club. The only way a wolf would be allowed in this club is right through the front door, welcomed as a friend. Look who’s helping him in the door. That’ll answer all your questions.”
To further discern the world view at play here, in addition to being a strong financial supporter and friendly with Tony Blair, and Bill Clinton, it’s been revealed by Cernovich that Schoen’s boss is a close friend of George Soros, calling him “a confederate.”
“So, the ‘Republican’ club that hosted the Trump Purge is now hosting a guy who was paid $40,000 a month by a friend of Soros? Makes sense,” wrote a club member.
“You’re telling me our club is welcoming a lobbyist for a buddy of George Soros? What more really needs to be said?” commented club member Allan Stevo.
The strange move by the Republican club comes on the heels of support on their board for vocal Anti-Trump candidates and the board’s opposition of Trump supporters.
“Republican in name alone pretty much describes a club that is going to welcome a Clinton operative,” said a club member interviewed by phone “We have Deb – the Schumer supporting president, Adele – the Anti-Trump freeloading tenant, and they are running campaigns out of our club house for that Marxist-feminist Women’s Party. What a world we live in!”
Manhattan Republican Party chairwoman, Adele Malpass praised a strategy of an Anti-Trump Republican candidate under a party known as the “Women’s Equality Party,” which quite surprisingly has a ten point Marxist-feminist agenda. This agenda includes taxpayer funded abortions, provided on demand, at any point in the three trimester pregnancy, or as the Women’s Equality Party coyly calls it “enacting the full standards of Roe v Wade.” This world view is far removed from the membership of the club, the Republican base, and the average American.
“You’re more likely to catch some of them in pink hats than in Lincoln Pins,” said Stevo of the club leadership, “I’m willing to give them the benefit of the doubt and say they didn’t really know what they were supporting, but at some point enough is enough.”
Adele Malpass is the husband of Treasury Department nominee David Malpass. Both David and Adele voted by proxy to remove Trump supporters from the board of the Metropolitan Republican Club on January 31, 2017. The Trump Purge was led by Deb Coughlin, a long time donor to “Friends of Schumer,” (http://gotnews.com/breaking-
Met Club member Sandra Chase commented for Umane to use his authority and credibility as a high-ranking party official to chair “an illegal and crooked meeting” was deeply inappropriate. The County Republican Party, under Adele Malpass, “rents” space from the Metropolitan Club free of charge and there has been some concern that an audit at the club will throw that arrangement into jeopardy.
According to the invitation sent out for the Doug Schoen event by Met Club Secretary and former club manager Jeff Charles Goolsby, club members and guests are invited to find out from the Clinton operative “How President Trump can ensure a consequential and successful presidency.” Additionally, as if the irony of inviting a Clinton operative to evaluate Trump’s presidency were not enough, the invitation drawn up by Goolsby also points out that the foreign government lobbyist, on the payroll of one of the most powerful Ukrainian oligarchs in the former USSR and who regularly agitates in the media for war with Russia will be available after the event with his latest book “Putin’s Master Plan.”
Any conflicts of interests are conveniently omitted.
“Honesty demands the conflicts of this speaker be shared with our members and that the conflicts on our executive committee also be shared with our members,” said a sitting executive committee member.
Our deeper investigation into Schoen and the Clinton Foundation was triggered by Schoen’s apparent conflicts of interest. A main problem Cernovich, The New York Times, Salon and others have had with Schoen is figuring out what team Schoen is ever playing for. Salon wrote this:
“Rasmussen himself clearly perceives Schoen as a pollster attached to the Hillary Clinton campaign and anything Schoen writes in the way of polling analysis or anything else ought to include that fact prominently.”
With continued reports of violent attacks on Republicans, some wonder if this is poor timing to have a Clinton operative speak at the club.
Glenn Nocera, a Brooklynite, lifelong Republican and a self-described ardent Trump supporter in a recent Fox News interview stated about life in New York these days “It feels like sometimes you’re at the Alamo, you’re outnumbered.”
Sandra Chase explained the long string of behavior of the Anti-Trump board members saying “This is a ‘hate Donald Trump’ movement.”
The same night, Thursday at 7pm, that Schoen is scheduled to speak on the Upper East Side at the Metropolitan Republican Club, left wing protests are being planned against conservative intellectual Charles Murray and his world view just across Central Park on the Upper West Side at Columbia University. During a recent appearance, Murray and his faculty host were physically attacked by a mob March 13, 2017 at Middlebury College in Vermont. The host left with a concussion.

A club member who spoke on condition of anonymity commented: “Republicans are literally being beaten up on the streets in America because their free speech hurts feelings. Instead of us making sure the Clinton operatives have a place to speak freely and to share their ideas, wouldn’t it be more in line with our club’s mission to welcome conservatives to come to the club who have nowhere else to speak safely? That’s exactly what private clubs like ours are for.”
