National Institute of Health Francis Collins admitted in an interview with C-Span on September 24 that there was a possibility that Ebola could go airborne.
Collins said he thought such an event was unlikely though not impossible.
“The other concern is that the Ebola virus is mutating, as viruses will do, especially now so many people infected. There are a lot of copies of this virus with so many people infected,” Collins said.
Collins stressed that such a mutation would be unprecedented but then more people have died from Ebola during this last outbreak than from all other known outbreaks combined.
