Former UN Ambassador John Bolton, who served under George W. Bush, still supports the Iraq War and seems to want to repeat it in Syria, Libya, Iran, Ukraine, and elsewhere, even risking war with a nuclear power like Russia or China.
Is that really somebody President-elect Donald J. Trump wants as his top diplomat in the Secretary of State post? The lying mainstream media seems to think so, going by the coverage. But does Bolton sound anything like pro-peace President Trump?
Just take a look at John Bolton’s history of warmongering:
In 2015, Bolton wrote a New York Times op-ed pithily titled ‘To Stop Iran’s Bomb, Bomb Iran.’ He called this logic “straightforward.”
The same year, he still supported the disastrous war in Iraq:
“I still think the decision to overthrow Saddam was correct. I think decisions made after that decision were wrong, although I think the worst decision made after that was the 2011 decision to withdraw U.S. and coalition forces.”
Egging on wars is nothing new for Bolton: in 2011, he wanted Barack Obama to intervene earlier and more forcefully in Hillary Clinton’s Libyan war to oust then-leader Gaddafi.
And in 2012, he wanted the UN to be “imposing significant economic sanctions on Syria, creating a partial weapons embargo, and unambiguously calling for Assad’s ouster.”
He refers to Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Bahrain, and the United Arab Emirates — who all fund ISIS, Al-Qaeda, and other Islamic terrorist groups — as “America’s Arab friends.”
As for nation-building? “Either a new state must be created out of the wreckage of Syria and Iraq, or some other durable approach must be found,” says Bolton.
In 2013, he thought it was time “to cause pain” to Russian President Vladimir Putin. In his view:
“Putin is on weaker ground in Ukraine than Obama has ever understood. A vigorously led NATO can strengthen deterrence and support Ukraine’s military capabilities and political will, thereby raising the costs and risks of Russian adventurism close to home…”
According to him, Putin’s Russia is “on the prowl” in ways that are “unprecedented” since the end of the Cold War.
He thinks it is “unfortunate” that Russia cannot be forced out of Syria with a policy reversal.
Are there any countries John Bolton thinks America shouldn’t threaten, sanction, bomb, or invade? His foreign policy track record puts him closer to Hillary Clinton than Donald Trump.

And for someone who is supposed to be anti-UN, Bolton sure shares their enthusiasm for sanctions, threats, and nation-building. It looks like the only reason John Bolton doesn’t like the UN is that he thinks it should be replaced by the U.S. military!
Bolton joins Trump-hating failed presidential candidate Mitt Romney, gun-grabbing classified info leaker David Petraeus, and self-vetting foreign lobbyist Rudy Giuliani in the basket of pro-war candidates for Secretary of State starkly opposed to the peace policies of President-elect Donald J. Trump and Representative Dana Rohrabacher.
