Billionaire PayPal founder and Facebook angel investor Peter Thiel gave millions to elect Ted Cruz to the U.S. Senate.
But will he give more to elect him to the presidency?
“Well, I think he’s very smart,” Thiel said of Cruz, who is now the junior senator from Texas, to GOP establishment writer Jamie Weinstein last year. “I think one of the challenges we have in the Republican Party is … our representatives, our senators, are somewhat lower IQ than the people on the other side. So I think there is something to be said for getting some really smart people in there.”
Thiel and Cruz know each other from libertarian circles since the 1990s.
Thiel has also backed the more libertarian Rand Paul’s 2010 candidacy.
